People who don't wear their seatbelt, etc etc.

American Style: privatize the gains, publicize the losses, assume everyone will lie/cheat/steal and so legislate everything to the lowest common denominator.

Excuse me while I mix up another bacon-n-bourbon and open my fourth pack of cigarettes.

Yes, they do. Not getting vaccinated is one of them.

That all sounds very reasonable to me. Freedom comes with responsibility.

Okay, let me know when you get all of those items passed through the legislature and then get back to me.

I don't think they are irritating. In fact, I think they are quite sad but a little humorous at the same time - a bit like sovereign citizens getting arrested all the time. Frustrating might be a better description, in that it's frustrating how stupid some people have become these days given all the opportunities available to them.
I wonder if they're really serious or just bored and crave attention like little kids.  If they are serious - that's sad and scary.

I suspect it's a bit of a mixture. I've little doubt there are some hardcore numbnuts that believe in any conspiracy theory they hear about that lead things and then a bunch of followers who think it's cool to be involved. Then you'll have those who think it's a nice day out to gaze at their crystals and some will have no idea what it's all about but it looks like fun. There was a very similar mixture of people involved in the TMT protests - maybe not the exact same people, but the same sort of mix of ideas of why they were there.

Protesters are like weeds. The fertile soil of Hawaii really encourages their growth and reproduction!

Yes, but it also fortunately also tempers tempers. I'd rather have them singing and dancing than throwing rocks and yelling. It's not easy to be angry when you're outside surrounded by all this beauty. You really have to work at it.

I agree with AaronM in this case. Having all the people above pay for their own medical services would be a heartless way of running healthcare yet I'm sure the medical insurance companies would just love it if that became law. On the other hand, the examples mentioned above are events that happen every day in Hawaii and the health system copes with it. What we have now is our ICU beds filling up with unvaccinated people with Covid which means everyone else who needs those services suffer due to what I think is the selfish inaction of others.

Now, how you fix that isn't clear to me, but turning an already extremely flawed health service into an even worse "you only get medical help if you can pay for it" system doesn't help anyone.
