Luquins
#11
Honestly I find both Luquins and Coco's Cantina's menus to be a bit limited.

Wish there was a place with a more varied menu.

I miss places on the mainland with like 10 different types of burritos to choose from among other things. Not to mention chimichangas.

Are there any good places in Hilo or maybe Kona?

@Malahini,

No REAL carne asada other than homeslice.

Pizza is here now at least.

A chimichanga is not really Mexican food.
Luquin's has always tailored their food to keep their majority market happy.
They mostly cook family recipes and it may not please everyone.
You want Tex Mex go to the Southwest.

Luquin's serves some really spicy food if you know how to order it.
If the server gives you a big hug when you sit down and you know all of the family, you can get Sal's flaming hot sauce and lots of other off menu goodies.

Yes, it is true. I do like Texmex more. I've never even been to Texas before though, except as a stopover for a flight.

Where I am from most of the "Mexican" restaurants are texmex.

Malahini, you might try Mi Ranchito in Hawi. It has a big menu and some tex-mex style dishes. Not always consistent, but definitely closer to mainland Mexican.

Or go back to the mainland where everything is better.
Certainty will be the death of us.

Not everything is better on the mainland. Just the food, jobs, shopping, mail delivery, energy prices... people can learn to do without.

I hear they have a website there called MainlandWeb.org where everyone complains about the restaurants, mail delivery, weather, their football team...
There’s even a guy constantly grumbling that he can only post stuff about the mainland, and not Hawaii.
