That's gonna be great for solar too. Over-panel your house, since panels are cheap, and top up your batteries in an hour of Puna sun, in between rain storms.
Largest Price increase you have seen ?

How much will these batteries cost?
How long will they last? Will they simply add to the disposal problem or improve it?

AAA Hawaii average gas prices, undated daily.
Scroll down on page link for Hilo. Oil prices are down another 7% today, and falling. They've been down every day for over a week, yet prices at the pump are higher today than yesterday. Those poor, sad oil companies, that have had it so rough this past year. https://gasprices.aaa.com/?state=HI

News headlines today included:
* Oil suffers spectacular collapse * Oil enters bear market * Oil demand down in China due to COVID outbreaks And yet prices at the pump in Puna and Hilo continue to rise. Supply and demand, right?

If you are looking for a criminal in this situation... draw your own conclusions. I agree, the cost of fuel versus the price of a barrel of oil has a huge disconnect, but that is the nature of futures contracts. It's an enterprise with corporations and governments skimming from A to B, but the local gas stations are as powerless as I am to change that. My only choice is to buy energy or produce it. My financial situation requires that I do both.

Average profit per gallon of gasoline for an oil company is 0.04.
Average profit for an independent GAS STATION is 4 cents. The OIL COMPANIES make a bundle. We discussed this a few years ago.

A can of US Open tennis balls (3 count) is now $13 from Amazon.
They used to be about 4 bucks.

How about this
Due to excessive levels of inflation, the price of the Starlink kit is increasing from $499 to $549 for deposit holders, and $599 for all new orders, effective today. In addition, the Starlink monthly service price will increase from $99 to $110. The new price will apply to your subscription on 5/19/2022.

The oil companies will be reeling from this for a long time to come.
You have so many inflationary pressures all at once now. Yes we are paying more at the pump, at every pump on Big Island. There were some comments earlier on this thread about the woes of the poor old oil companies, and how they are not to blame for gas that costs over $5.00 a gallon in Pahoa. There's an old saying, "that didn't age well:" Shell reports a record $9.1 billion profit. ... its biggest ever quarterly profit … adjusted earnings of $9.1 billion for the January-March period were almost triple the $3.2 billion it earned in the same period a year earlier. Shell took advantage of the volatility in the markets to rake in trading profits. https://www.nytimes.com/2022/05/05/busin...rofit.html And then for the icing on the cake. According to the BBC yesterday, oil companies and the price of gas are the largest contributing factor for inflation at the moment. So the next time you're filling up at the Shell station on Kilauea and hear someone grumbling about politicians causing pain at the pump and incresed inflationary pressures due to higher transportation costs, remind them who really puts the hell in Shell.

There were also comments earlier in this thread that electric cars aren't ready for prime time, too many problems with batteries, charging, etc.
Why? Not the technology. Footdragging. In 1991 Nissan built an electric car that went 155 miles, and charged 40% (60+ miles) in 6 minutes. If we had improved on that capability over the last 30 years no one would give a rat's ass what the price of gas was in Pahoa. The PGV protestors would welcome expansion and cost-of-production pricing at the geothermal plant because they could drive around protesting other stuff for almost nothing. And no one would steal their catalytic converters. https://www.greencarreports.com/news/113...mile-range |
