PS. Just did a price check comparing the Naniloa to a similarly priced hotel in CA about 10 miles from Santa Barbara. Both hotels came in at about $700 for a 4-night stay starting 16th May. The Naniloa added $310 in taxes and fees, the CA hotel added $84. Many in the travel industry would likely agree. Damn, that tax and fee burden is large. Maybe some day only the wealthy will afford living OR visiting Hawaii.
“I don’t believe ending the mask requirement will have any measurable affect on passenger volumes,” said Henry Harteveldt, president of Atmosphere Research Group, a travel marketing research firm. “Higher airfares and lack of seats at affordable fares will probably be greater deterrents to people traveling this summer.”

For those now concerned about exposure to Covid while travelling by air, the places to mask up would be in the airport, in line to board, and before the aircraft fires up the ventilation system. Once airborne, you won't be breathing much of other people's air, thanks to the excellent ventilation. Seeing that the aircraft are pressurized to about 8,000 ft, you want all the O2 you can get, right?

There absolutely will be more travelers to Hawaii. I just talked to a friend last night who was surprised to learn the restrictions in Hawaii had dropped, he is considering a visit now. A lot more this summer until the recession kicks in maybe fall or winter, then we can reap the benefits of terrible governance and monetary policy.

Well yes, but Hawaii dropping restrictions is something different than airlines dropping mask mandate.

I know I was not looking forward to wearing a mask on my upcoming mainland trip. Makes me hot, stuffy and my skin breaks out under my beard. Very uncomfortable, judging by all the videos of people cheering, happy pilots and crying flight attendants who suffered for years, I am not alone but in the majority. It’s a joyful moment for us, sorry not for the rest of you all.

I will continue to wear a bulletproof helmet when traveling, because it's my right as an American.

There are also lots of videos of ghosts, space aliens, chemtrails, a flat Earth, etc. Given your logic, the people who believe in that stuff are also in the majority.

I'm imagining a massive pileup on highway 11 during heavy rain. Bodies have flown through car windows onto the pavement, people are dead, the scene is a mess. Finally it stops pouring and the survivors unbuckle their seatbelts and celebrate the fact that they survived. Then a strange troll like creature jumps out of a nearby short bus, exclaiming "Seeeeee? Seatbelts don't work! Look how happy they are to take off their seatbelts!"

Did the pileup occur because people didn’t follow the arrows and stay in the right lanes? I want to congratulate everyone who followed the one way isles at Safeway, think of the thousands of lives they saved! As for those selfish ass holes who thought you could dart 10 ft down the wrong way of an isle to grab one item, the blood is on your hands! The kids at Pahoa high for the next decade or two will always get to wonder why there’s green arrows painted in different directions on each side of every damn walkway. Must of taken forever painting some thousands of those arrows. Thank god they did, can you imagine!?!
For me what really made me feel safe was the plexiglas dividers, it really made sure we couldn't understand a thing that either of us were mumbling under our masks. Or maybe it was the county workers disinfecting thousands of feet of chain link fence in parks the kids weren’t allowed to play in. I’m sure the 10 million gallons of hand sanitizer helped too.

I think the issue is more about you claiming you're in the majority without providing any evidence. As for Safeway's policies, my experience is that no one followed them. I didn't apart from wearing a mask. Did it make my life intolerable? No, it didn't.

Please understand that plexiglass dividers are the least of our problems. Nor is wearing masks. There are bigger issues right now and your whining isn't one of them.
