military training on the Big Island
#1
"HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The Army has a surprising new critic to continued military training at the Pohakuloa range on the Big Island: The state.
HNN obtained documents in which the state Land Department said the training is not compatible with the conservation land. The Army wants to retain up to 23,000 acres of state land at the Pohakuloa Training Area for continued training and asked for comments on a draft environment impact statement.
Options included retaining the land for military use, partial retention or losing its 65-year lease, which expires in 2029. It’s a lease that cost the army just $1.
The state documents said the Army’s draft EIS does not meet requirements and has major gaps."

And it goes on from there.  It's always seemed like a done deal so I've never questioned the possibility of getting rid of it.  Are there any advantages to keeping the training area at 1$ per year?
Certainty will be the death of us.

During the 2018 lava flow an area near the Pahoa water station had a large contingent of military vehicles, equipment, and personnel.  I’m not sure if that was from Pohakuloa or National Guard.  I think there were military vehicles helping out after Iselle too.  Anyone remember details?

I had thought about the "learning Chinese" aspect before I posted, but with Pearl Harbor in Honolulu and the lack of harbors here, I doubt the Chinese would have much interest in our little hunk of lava rock.

PTA is valued for high altitude training. The army isn't going anywhere.

Oahu has its own issues with Red Hill and all. Don’t think they like the military there either (at least some of them).

Call it the BJ Penn base.

Its probably being built in case BJ stages an uprising.

Before BJ ran for Governor there was no need for it.

Tulsi Gabbard might also factor in.

And, I heard the sky is falling!

Not that I know for sure but I heard, from someone that knows Mr. Little personally, that he's sure it is.
