The Bicker Board
A man after my own heart- controversial and not afraid to speak his mind.

Could not find that clip, TomK. Though many have referenced it.

News flash. I am running for the HPPOA board, and have announced it here so that some of you can "bicker" about it.

Wish me luck!

Why would anyone want to "bicker" about this news?

In as much as a statement like that, at least to me, would seemingly not really ingratiate yourself to the constituency of who you need to get elected, I'd say it's quite frankly, about time.

And I sincerely wish you the absolute best of luck.

I'd like to offer your candidacy a quote and end with a great haiku (that I also shared on another thread)

"With great power comes great responsibility"
-Voltaire

Once a complainer
You are now a decider
How is that going?

Again, I offer you the best of luck!

Thanks Jules. Here is my statement:

I have submitted the following, to HPPOA, as of 8:00 PM tonight.

I have been involved in HPPOA politics for more than three years. I have seen the good, bad, and the ugly. And yes, I have an agenda.
· I want to protect your Restricted Road Fee Money.
· I want to commit to embracing Hawaiian culture and protecting Hawaiian cultural sites.
· I want to tackle HPP issues as a whole, together, as a community and not just as a take-charge association.
· I want to take HPPOA back to its roots as a voluntary community non-profit that does good, but also understands their responsibilities and limitations.
And
· I want to encourage and inform all HPP owners, so that they know and understand, what their rights are.
But
· Most of all HPP Owners, I want whatever you tell me that you want. And I promise, I will work to try to make that happen for you.

Thanks for the memories! I think the scene I'm thinking of came from his next series - The All New Alexei Sayle Show. He became really well known as various characters in The Young Ones, especially the episode when he appears as Benito Mussolini.

You're welcome Patricia.

I would however appreciate it if you would call me by my name that being Julie.

For someone who desires to be called by her proper name, I am sure you can understand and abide by my request.

Thank you, Julie.

That would be good.

A bump in the road.
From the bylaws :

The affairs of the Association shall be governed by a board
composed of nine persons, who must be "MEMBERS" in good standing.

You are not a member therefore you are not eligible to run.

There are a lot of "bumps" in HPPOA's bylaws, which are the result of numerous illegal bylaw amendments that do not follow the memorandum. These bylaw changes have resulted in confused language, referencing "members" instead of "owners" and HPPOA instead of HPP in certain passages where those distinctions matter.

HPPOA is not a membership only "club." Especially when HPPOA does not collect membership dues. The bulk of money HPPOA receives is from the collection of mandatory road maintenance fees. These restricted road maintenance fees total more than 95% of all the income HPPOA pulls in. So, just as an HPP Owner is still allowed to vote (as per the court) regardless of if they are an HPPOA member or not, an HPP Owner, in good standing should be able to run for the board. In addition, I think HPPOA would have a difficult time explaining to the court how they can justify "compelling" HPP owners to pay them but not allow those owners to participate in governance.
