You can babble on. The fact is "The real question though is how's the drive from Puna compared to MLO - better, worse, or about the same (in the "you can't get there from here" sorta way?" is impossible to answer because it makes no sense.

Maybe had you ended your statement with an acknowledgment that it makes no sense to you it'd be easier to write it off as an opinion. And since we're on the subject, howz your highway stack up to MLO, - better, worse, or about the same?

I always love the drive up to MLO, it's way better than doing the curbside crawl down 130. Have you ever hiked up from there to the summit? Or, appreciated the deflection barriers JPL designed when they built the observatory in the first place. What a wonderful world, eh?

As far as that road not being cleared.. in Iceland it would have been back in action within a day or two of the eruption stopping.. a week at the most.

Let's spell it out. The question was:

The question asks how the drive from Puna is—to where? I don't know. Then, it asks to compare the Mauna Loa Observatory to that drive. MLO is a physical thing, a place. If that makes sense to you, fine, but I don't see how the rest of the English-speaking world would.

Since we're just extracting text from larger semantic blocks and then failing to subsequently understand the overall gestalt, I think this fragment is also worth considering more deeply. One fascinating thing about Philip K Dick stories like Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep/Blade Runner or Scanner Darkly, is they often center around individuals who struggle with understanding what they find to be confusing elements of the world while everyone else seems to do fine making sense of the same. Frequently this leads to novel insights about oneself and the nature of perception and reality.

You may be in an interesting place to better understand this perspective, maybe even contribute to the genre? Or find a modern day Oliver Sacks to have a chat with? ("The agnosiacs perceived the president's words without understanding them, and found them illogically structured, with one remarking that "he does not speak good prose.")

Sorry Mod2, going a bit off the plantation, but as TomK seems intent to wander into confusion over his eisegesis versus exegesis, figured a sidetrip might be tolerated on this meandering drive to somewhere, hopefully a brighter place with a clearer view and a more stable atmosphere, if only an unblocked road can be identified that gets us from here to there.

Empathy.. or the lack thereof.. seems to be the basis of so much hereabouts..

Some can't say.. in my opinion.. because all they know is theirs. No other opinion, to them, exists.

Same same with those who can't 'keep it Hawaii.' In theirs Hawaii is just a town on the outskirts of Los Angeles, or some other mainland metropolis. How could they even conceive what we mean?

Again, without empathy, we all think alike. Or so those so afflicted think..

But brah, no need get yourself all tied up like that. I was just pointing out you didn't hit the mark. You were close, but knowing how much you can muster when encouraged I hoped razing you a bit would inspire rather than reap a dis. Oh well, let's hope for better days ahead. As to my published take on things.. yeah, I'm sorry to disappoint. But hey, if you can point to any of your prose as an example of how it's really done I'm eager to learn.

Apologies MyMan! Been meaning to circle back. So many bullets were flying at that point in time and it is difficult to discern a razz from a dis if you leave out the smile. No excuse.
