Why bother? Seriously, you've driven practically everyone that used to converse here away. It's all Julie all the time on every thread. Every minute every hour.. Julie. That's it.

Instead I shared my thoughts on another forum where people are civil.. interested.. and the admins don't let whacked out lonely old ladies take over the whole site and run everyone away.

I think people were a little more chill around here back before social media algorithm echo chambers, the waves of liberal moral panic, Covid, Covid-spending-induced-inflation, extreme identity politics, and the gutting of conservatism in favor of a fascist cult. The thing that ties it all together is billionaires and multinational corporations draining trillions from the middle class and future generations, making things harder for everyone, amping up the stress of daily life.

We are getting pinched particularly hard here in Hawaii. When everyone else's gas got cheaper, ours stayed high. Cheap bread on the mainland is back to $1.25 a loaf, but it's up to $5.24 here. Home prices and rent are more than double here and going up. Electricity is 2-3 times the national average in our sunny, geothermal capable state. All the good commercial real estate is owned by our local oligarchs, with our new billionaires buying the rest, and small businesses have to work twice as hard to survive.

All that to say, things were a little nicer for everyone back when Carrie posted here. We're living in a different world now that is most definitely encroaching on Hawaii and Punaweb in every way.

FYI I think itʻs Carey, but I think your post is spot on.  We havenʻt found a way to stop whatʻs happening in the world, and yes, weʻre all hopelessly internet connected and Punaweb is certainly not exempt from the toxicity, but one thing we can do is to show aloha to each other when weʻre out and about.  Iʻm amazed and heartened when I go into Hilo and strangers still talk story, a smile is stiil returned with a smile and people are generally kind to each other.  The other thing we can do is for each of us to individually opt out of the hate speech, personal insults and the bickering. And we can start on Punaweb for that. Some canʻt/wonʻt.  Thatʻs on them. Opt out.
