Reassuring to know if there is ever some kind of dangerous eruption we'll all be trapped here!

May not be able to escape, but we'll get high tech notifications of the unique "weather conditions". At least the "snow" and "hail" here aren't cold - take that mainlanders! ;)

Interesting changes on the mountain.. are they subtle.. meaningless.. or heralding in some larger changes..?

But, regardless, they’re fun to note…

Here’s two views of the summit tilt.. the last month showing (at time of the posting) the entire steady inflation leading up to the last eruption, and the eruption deflation itself, followed by our new.. and rather subdued.. inflation so far..

And a view of all the inflation followed by the rapid eruption deflation cycles since this series started..

[Image: UWD-TILT-Dec2024_to_now.png?fileTS=1771893787]

So as to point out the unusualness of this current inflation pattern when compared to all the cycles that came before.

I wondered about this too. Time will tell. Just donʻt want any more tephra please.
Certainty will be the death of us.

Building on my last post.. because the site is set to only allow two images per post..

The screwy part during this time of change in the inflation pattern is the seismicity. Here is the last 48 hours of trace at the summit..

And a closer 6 hour view of the same..

Showing these are not rapid onset earthquake events but more like short tremor bursts..

And HVO covers theses changes with their most recent update as reported by BIVN at..

https://www.bigislandvideonews.com/2026/...n-episode/

But doesn’t speculate much on what it all means.. though I would point out that in recent cycles there has been evidence of magmatic movement underground which this seems to be a continuation of..

Fun.

I sure get that... no more da tephra! Seriously.. no more.. complete with the whole tribe chanting.. the drum circles.. and churches filled with the faithful all praying.

But will second Yak's 'but we do live on an active volcano' (I'm loosely paraphrasing) sentiment.. which in turns reminds me of a conversation I had with a friend back in the early eighties..

She, they, I was really a long time friend of her husband, who had, before he married her, lived in Waipio back in the '70s. He, a life long, and renowned, painter who when I was talking with them we were at their home in Vacationland, and I was explaining that to be investing all their hopes and dreams on such a volatile part of Kilauea was a real gamble.. and she turned to me and said "but not in my lifetime." That's a direct quote. And she wasn't some bimbo, but rather a teacher at Pahoa High..

And now the home, the farm/orchards out in the farm lots, the art studio, and guest house are all under 50 feel of rock.

And still, yes, no more da tephra!
