I mean, when claims are getting fact-checked by leilanidude of all people, the message has clearly gone off the rails.
Especially when the Dude makes up his own quotes for "fact checking."

Again, it's just Tam quoting one AI and leilanidude another. Soon someone else will quote yet another, all without attribution, and the sockpuppets will keep slinging AI quotes back and forth, without any actual sources being checked. Dead internet theory with meat puppet middle men and women.
You'd figure with all this AI assistance, a winning message for the electorate be crafted, but I guess we'll have to wait and find out after August 8th.

BTW it's working out great for us. We, IRL, know no one who wishes they did, but plenty who wish they hadn't.

Any chance you can translate?

On PW, people just want to bicker. Tam's point is that we should produce our energy locally. It is in his campaign slogan. It is right on his signs. Main point.
No one can speak for anyone else here, but I feel relatively confident that PW consensus reality understands that this is a great idea.
Instead of saying, "great idea", Punaweb says, "In making your overarching point you botched this minor supporting point and therefore you are wrong about everything. A hui ho, baby and bathwater."
Who cares where the oil comes from? Seriously. Tam is saying that we need to get off the oil. People here, who should LOVE that message (and did recently love it), are now puking because they can't get behind 100% of what the guy is about. The purity test.
Tam can not have any effect on where the oil comes from. If elected, he will have perhaps a snowball's hope on Mauna Kea, of affecting our relationship with oil. That is the point.
As proof of concept, I welcome whichever one of you it is, who will now swerve into nonsense-land about some minor phrase above that has nothing to do with the overarching point. And so, Punaweb turns. Were it not so, you would very likely see a very different consensus reality here.
Cheers,
PT

Imagine if we applied that logic to EVERY politician running for office. It sure would cut down on those candidates who use "locker room" talk and the supporters who turn a blind eye, or ear for that matter.

Is that Tam is wholly unqualified for the job which he is seeking. That he doesn't know what he is talking about, and is unwilling to listen to others when that is pointed out. And, as such, would be a waste of time at the state legislature.
As to PW demographics.. I think the few Tam supporters here when considered as a part of the whole.. says a lot. Says it all.

A good read on Tam's take of Hawaii's new HB 1728, now Act 209, signed into law on July 8th: (Greggor co-introduced this bill. Did he ever mention it to any of you? Get your take on it? Involve you?)
How HB 1728 opens the door to government over-reach on watch catchment | by Tam Hunt | Jul, 2026 | Medium
----------------
The bill was of course, poorly written and the intent was for it to be related to commercial catchment systems or large-scale apartment/condo installations that would allow additional development in places where municipal water systems are not readily available. It should be amended to clarify the language so that it stops distracting the "OMG it is going to cause an inspection of my home catchment system" people.

You would think the guy who co-introduced it and wrote it would have done that. Especially since he represents the "water catchment users Capital of Hawaii."

I'd say the same applies to the Tam detractors. When considered as part of the whole, it says a lot. Says it all.

Here is what I am saying. Some positions are a deal breaker. If a candidate bows to the illogical unsubstantiated claims of the anti geothermal crowd, when geothermal is a functional source of energy around the world, that’s not a minor point, it’s major.
If a candidate relies on AI for facts and figures without proper review (which is not difficult), that’s not a minor point, it’s major.
Those positions might change over time, we’ll see. For instance Tam might spend more time with the anti geothermal crowd and realize most of their objections are decades old grievances (some legitimate decades ago) but don’t hold up with the current technology used.
It’s not baby out with the bath water.
It’s placing a baby (his good ideas) into a tub of unfiltered, uncovered, exposed to birds, rodents, and debris filled catchment water (bad ideas).

Bingo. And thereʻs a whole lot of it around from all over the political spectrum. Iʻve learned to be aware of the obvious red flags, ie:

should
could
might
perhaps
possibly
etc.
