Have you bought any gas lately?
Sounds like China can give us a serious crack spread if they decide to.

Obviously they have enough to make their own jelly without having to concoct some kine process to make 'em from coal.

In Puna you don’t dig down or drill deep.  Look up, into your coconut tree for oil, the natural Vaseline.

To bump this thread up and keep it active, we can feel good about our recent prices compared to remote locations in Alaska.

This was in a story from NYT today:  "The price of a gallon of gasoline in the northwest Alaska village of Shungnak was $26.82 on Friday..."     Wow!    The good news is that they only have a couple miles of roads.  Big Grin

Had the misfortune of having to go to Kona for a medical appt last week...haven't been over on "that side" for several years...really! Choose not to go thru that brain damage as much as possible.

However, gas at Safeway was $4.79!!! Absolutely shocked...and disgusted. Almost a dollar less per gallon than here?

We are getting sooooo screwed on this side of the island.

Also, not gas-related but screwed-related (um...not in the way referenced a few comments up), I read that Malama and the Natch both threw out massive amounts of food instead of making it available to people who could use it right away. Shame!!!

Most people who defended them because "people could get sick from spoiled food" aren't aware of "Good Samaritan" laws that state that it is the recipient's choice to accept the free food and use their own best judgement in deciding whether to eat it. Those Good Samaritan laws are what are allowing dozens if not hundreds of organizations around the country to be able to give free food away to people and in some places even condone dumpster diving so that people can eat.

Food waste in this country is bad enough without those stores being willfully greedy and denying people what could be sustenance in this post-disaster aftermath.

I just heard of an organization on Oahu called Aloha Harvest that has refrigerated trucks that are deployed in just such circumstances and go out and pick up the food from the places that have lost power and are able to keep it cold and distribut it to food banks and whatnot. Obviously that is desperately needed on Big Island.

Ok...I gotta stop. I'm getting overwrought. Between all of this and now DOLLY???

Dark times indeed...

I posted this May 20.

If you’re worried about gas prices, still to come are motor oil increases and empty shelves.  It’s on the way as 10w40 works its way out of supply chain shipments.

"Brotha, can you spare a few gallons of gas"
