For your possible interest and amusement, here is a link to a fun and very easy-to-use website-
http://obamiconme.pastemagazine.com/
The "keep it Hawaii" connection here is admittedly tenuous, though one could reach and suggest such a resource could:
-stimulate & enhance further artistic productivity and economic activity in Puna,
-provide entertainment after 10pm on the East Side of the Big Island, and that
-psychedelic art is significant in Puna historically (like, last Thursday).
This site rightly credits Shepard Fairey's now-famous poster for inspiration yet it remains that anyone who lived through the 1960's (and can actually even remember that glorious decade) recognizes high-contrast vivid art as hailing from the psychedelic era. IMHO, the four particular colors employed in this site are the real connection to being "Obam-iconed," not the general concept itself. And of course apart from coincidentally being made famous by a recent campaign poster there is nothing even remotely political in any way about the style itself.
A few quick notes on efficiently using the tools at the site to create your own images:
-shrinking an image exposes a red-blue background,
-checking "Custom" and then leaving the caption blank provides a dark bar at bottom (to which an image can be merged by dragging it down),
-if the server is too busy to upload and process your image then try reducing the size or try again late at night when it is not so busy, and
-taking an changed image and then running a couple more color transformations on it in any graphics package will swap around the hues and vividness of the image.
Probably anyone intimately familiar with Photoshop will yawn and wonder why I am impressed by this, but since I am unfamiliar with anything beyond the simplist features of Graphic Converter this does seem so quick and easy as to be all sorts of fun. Without spending hundreds of dollars for Photoshop (and then several frustrating days learning how to use it) last night in an hour of playing around at this free site I produced a batch of great transformed and colorized images of my kids, so surely anyone can do it.
Enjoy!
