Well if you missed it you missed a good time. Very local style all very sincere. There was some fine hula and local music.... I am embarrassed to not know the names of the musicians and dancers. I will make an effort to find out. They deserve credit. Anthony was a great host and being a Puna guy put on a perfect Puna fund raiser for his campaign. I know the funds and needed and will be well used. The tap dancing gals were fun as were a variety of local talent. I also enjoyed meeting Anthony's parents.
Kale Gumapac, Patrick Walsh and Wayne Joseph, all candidates for office, had good things to say about Anthony. I think Patrick perhaps captured a clear Marzi attribute when he spoke of Tony offering his intelligence, talents and youth for the district. I think that the point about his youth, as a great asset, has not been explored or understood enough. The position Anthony seeks, State House Representative, is a position where youth will be a multifaceted asset. It will take a lot of energy to swim with the sharks in Honolulu. It will also take a fair amount of time to make headway there as a neighbor island representative. Time is something a young person has without conflict and Anthony does indeed offer us that.
Patrick Walsh also made an excellent point that the two weeks ahead of us to Primary are important and we have the task before us to do more that just talk about our candidates.... we need to make that extra effort, call five people we know and, at least, suggest that if they have not made a decision yet to vote for Marzi. I agree with Patrick.
I like and respect Steve Sparks and Fred Blas. I think they both have a lot to offer except time. Both these fine gentlemen are at retirement and the energy and time to invest in long term alliance development in Honolulu is a hard ask and a hard thing to deliver at that stage. It might take several years to get established in Honolulu. With no disrespect to Sparks or Blas I do believe that Anthony Marzi has the best combination for Puna today and tomorrow.
Assume the best and ask questions.
