Bike lanes for Pahoa - Keaau
#1
For those of you who like to ride bikes this should be of interest.

I as at the Keaau-Pahoa Adisory Group (KPAG) meeting this evening in Keaau to watch the progress of the Hwy. 130 proposals.

One thing I came away with was that all alternative plans under consideration contain 8' wide bike paths separated from the traffic by a guardrail.

(I was disappointed to see that this group exhibited no interest in burying the power lines along Hwy. 130.)
Assume the best and ask questions.

Please leave my name out of that "Group" that had no interest.

Yes... folks... looks like were gonna get a bike path next to the road...

Then your gonna see a barrier... and then a sidewalk.

Why we need a sidewalk and a bike path is just beyond me... I don't know why it has to be both.

Their going to make the bikers ride next to the cars... then put a divider to seperate the walkers from the Bikers.

God forbid if some biker hit a pedestrian!

PUBLIC MEETINGS SCHEDULED FOR april 30th/31st

Locations will be split between Keaau and Pahoa... still securing sites and locations for which days.

In Hawaii,bicycles are considered vehicles.
You would probably need to get this legal definition changed.

It is against the law to ride on the sidewalk.
You would need to get this changed.

Do you ride ? If I hit a pedestrian while I am riding,I suspect we would both be seriously injured.

If there was a shared lane it would need to be large enough to share, along with changing state law.
