My friend had his small SUV stolen from his property awhile ago. It was spotted in a Pahoa parking lot and he stole it back.
The lolo who was driving it must have known it was stolen, he bought it from a nephew with no papers, the door and ignition jimmied, VIN removed, and a quickie paint job. This guy didn't have a clue that it was the owner that took it back so he filed a police report,[
] and put a notice on Craigs list with his name and phone number!
My friend took it to the police with the papers, and ID'd it through aftermarket part reciepts, and the cops said "OK, take em home".
The cops then called the lolo and asked him about his police report, and why the SUV had tags from one of his nephews cars.
The lolo ratted out his nephew and the nephew was arrested for theft. The vehicle was pretty trashed, but there can be some justice when the thieves are so clueless.
