Real Estate in Puna Is still over priced
#25
We paid a premium for a lot in a great neighborhood during the 'run-up' in the market. I still wouldn't trade our nearly-finished home, one that suits our needs, for a small house on a lot that has been ripped stem to stern. It's not a deal if the 'practically free' home comes with poor design, cheapest finishing materials possible, lack of proper ventilation, overhangs and usable outdoor lanai space, and no landscaping. All these issues will need to be addressed but are not always considered into the buy-versus-build discussion. This response has been repeated over and over on various threads that have asked: "Why build when you can buy?"

BTW, not all buyers are from the U.S. market. For Canadians, there's a much improved exchange rate against the U.S. dollar over the last year or so.
