We have the Bose docking station, and one for our TV too... but they do not have external speaker connections. So, as far as I know, we need one for each room.

Actually a simple computer speaker system works well with an iPod and if you have one with a sub woofer, the sound is darn good. We found this out by accident when we moved here.
