Freestate - on occasion I've actually had to desaturate colours because they can be so intense here they don't look real! Unfortunately I didn't have my camera with me today so I couldn't take a picture of Mauna Kea from Hilo. It was so clear, no vog at all, and the green at the lower levels contrasted vividly with the dry brown of the upper slopes. It really showed how dry it's been. Maybe tomorrow...
I'm glad you have a better starting point than I do, I think you'll learn quickly! Just out of interest, what camera do you have? The one I'm using now is a Panasonic FZ35. I really like it but one day I want to upgrade to a decent DSLR. I'm looking at the Canon Rebel T2i but with all the extras I want (a couple of decent lenses plus accessories) it'll be over $2000 and that's just too much money right now.
