I'm a total advocate of self defense. A person has every right to take whatever steps are necessary to protect themselves when attacked.
But to "Maybe one of the dogs should get hurt before a child gets hurt?" is simply not going to work.
The dog owner is the problem and I don't see how this is going to change the owner's behavior. If anything, it will compound the situation by creating the only thing worse than an idiot dog owner; An idiot dog owner out for revenge. The above quote should be:"Better to take some smart, effective action against these irresponsible owners before a child gets hurt".
So read my earlier post again and don't assume that I advocate taking no action. I would only caution against taking ill-conceived knee jerk action.
We use a pig trap and coordinate with the humane society in our neighborhood. I's not totally effective, but we're working on it. There was a guy in our neighborhood about ten years ago that took it on himself to be the "executioner". The dogs are still here, but he's not.
