As a digital high def cable subscriber, I like renting the DVR. All I have to do if it gets snappish is take it in and get a new one, or have a tech bring one to me. Plus they can actually diagnose and fix most problems over the line. They can also update the software over the line, so that the older one has the capabilities they have just come up with. Can they do that with a third party TiVo?
I'm not saying TiVo isn't great if you have basic cable or for dish or for anyone who loves them. Just saying something for the DVR side. I have an HD TV and regular stations look like crap on it, so I rarely watch anything that's not on the hi-def spectrum. It's hard to go back once one has that kind of crystal sharp image, with perfectly clear frame by frame advance (was very useful when LOST was on, lol).
