AVG seems to have kept me safe from that System Tool virus. In the past when I had Norton or MacAfee, they would not play well with any other virus protection. I even had several programs go wonky that suddenly started working right when I disabled Norton, hence my search for something else where I settled on AVG a few years ago.
Royal, if the hard drive is truly dead then there is little else to say.
Most people only live with one hard drive. I REALLY REALLY recommend you get a USB connected HD enclosure to stick another HD in or buy one of the ready made ones. Walmart has them.
I know this is Barn door advice, but this behavior has saved my PROGRAMS and DATA and my sanity several times over the last ten years.
You will after all keep using computers and it could save you next time, as well as having that drive accessible to any computer you use.
