I don't allow multiple accounts in any of my forums. It makes it too difficult to moderate the forum properly if everyone has more than one account. I don't know what Rob's rule is about it tho. Maybe he can (or someone who knows) chime in hear and let me know.

KonaDave, I actually wasn't trying to state anything about the rules of the forum when I quoted Tom, but I agree that all the forums I do participate in other than this one have a stated rule that multiple accounts are not allowed, and they do ban anyone who tries.

For that reason, there is a lot of stability and continuity in a screen name persona. I feel that I do know who I am speaking with just as much if the name is Mauka or the name is Dave Smith or Will Robinson for that matter. My full last name isn't part of my nick here, but that has never prevented anyone from taking me to task when they don't like what I say.

I challenged Tom's comment because Mauka of Punaweb has no history of changing nics and Tom was accusing him, if I understand the post, of saying that he is leaving Punaweb forever when he (Mauka) will likely (according to Tom) sign up and post under a new name.

Whether Rob's software would catch the IP duplication I don't know, but what I was calling Tom on is having no basis for ascribing that behavior to someone who has always posted under the same name.

Of course it all gets more tangled in that Punaweb Mauka never said he was leaving. That was mauka (small M) who commented on Tom's blog and is most likely someone else lifting the handle to attack John Rabi and others -- which I do find low and despicable, to shift the blame for one's own attack to someone else by way of impersonation.
