Pahoa Community Garden
#2
Aloha,

Saturday's Garden party at the Pahoa Village Community Garden was a
HUGE success. Despite the rainy day, over 30 people came out to
transform a slice of Pahoa into an edible paradise.

A lot of overgrown weeds were cut down and pulled out, a new taro
patch was created, many fruit trees were planted including breadfruit,
banana, coffee, papaya, surinam cherry and whole bunch of new
friendships were made.

Everyone was so excited to be part of this transformation that the
question was, "When will we do this again?" Well, Maura at T.H.I.S
organization (thisorganization@live.com) has recently created a
Community Garden Club. Send her an email to join the club and get on
the list for the NEXT Garden party. Hopefully every other month on
the second Saturday.

In the meantime, feel free to drop in and treat that garden as your
own. Do some weeding (the back of the lot needs some major clearing),
harvest some food (Ice Cream Bean is bearing nicely right now) and
even plant some plants. You can check in with Sarah at the Pahoa
Village Museum if you have something big that you'd like to put in the
ground.

If you have pics, please send them to me and we'll get them up on our
East Hawaii Timebank Facebook page
(http://www.facebook.com/pages/East-Hawai...1341221128)

Our next timebank gathering is gearing up for April at our favorite
place, the Nanawale Community Center. Stay tuned for more updates
regarding that.

Until then
A hui hou
