Upper Kaiwiki Rd.
#3
Hello Pog, I live on lower Kaiwiki. About 600' elev. The weather is really elevation dependent. We get much more rain than down town. My friend, the very last house gets more than us. Views are very dependent on trees and which side of the road your on. Like many places on the East side the higher up you go the wetter it stays. If your in Hilo and look up Mauna Kea mauka abiove Wainaku, that big grey area on the hill that looks like rain, that's Kaiwiki. Kai wiki actually means "Water quickly". Unsure if that is for the abundance of rain fall or which the speed it sheds it. The steams get huge in a downpour. My nieghbor said as kids they used to "slide" down the hill on garbage can lids after a big rain.
Beautiful place with many amazing people. Mostly local still. And plenty culture abound. Every evening my neighborhood is filled with happy sounds of kanikapila and smells of good cooking.
Correy in the last camp up da hill.
