rainyjim, it sounds like you've had a good look at the lot and I don't think seeing every inch is feasible. Keep in mind though that if you are planning to build, flat is good. You may not know where you want to put a house, but most people put it within the first couple hundred feet, so if there are dips past there it's not such a big deal.
One of the reasons we chose the lot we did is because we actually could get into it and look around - some lots are impenetrable!
On our last trip we stayed at a vacation rental on Aulii and 38th, the owners live nearby and said it's a good area and good people are in the hood. I say if the land speaks to you, go for it!
