For what its worth, my thoughts on fitness memberships: Many years ago I joined a fitness club, and soon discovered it was time-consuming to drive back and forth (not to mention gas, etc.), and that I really didn't need all the fancy-schmancy equipment they had. If there was/is value, it's in the potential to build community and friendship through various classes like yoga, sports activities, etc.--but it's not enough to attract me at this stage of my life. After moving here I bought a $100 (plus $40 for shipping) jungle-gym thingie on Amazon (made in China, of course), assembled it and put on my lanai. It's got everything I need to do push-ups, pull-ups, vertical crunches, dips, squats, etc. And on sunny days I swim in the ocean.
Not saying a gym wouldn't work. But I'm wondering if classes, activities and "the human touch" might be more of a draw than a small place merely stocked with exercise equipment?
