Spray bleach in place, flipping board over with a stick as you go. Then, throw the board into your "scrap bin", to be cut down into some future project, like a termite/rot barrier where the post meets the pier.
I read somewhere that only the banana slugs (native to mid-coastal CA, as in "Santa Cruz") are rat lungworm host/carriers, disease was present on-island but hardly a problem until the banana slugs arrived.
