Wegian - you have to remember that 1) "Steve Chiverton" is a Daily Mail reader, so that should put you on guard straight away, and more seriously, 2) most people in the UK when they see property prices think about the cost of the building rather than the land - it's just the way it is in the UK. In most cases the people see a property as the building alone and the garden or yard comes with it for free. Of course it doesn't but it explains many of the sillier comments about the article. Point no. 1 also explains them as well! Interesting that "Steve Chiverton claims to be in Ascot - that's just a couple of miles from where I grew up!
As for the Daily Mail, well, you can judge their journalistic and editorial standards simply from the caption to the last photo: "Breathtaking: Maua [sic] Kea reaches 33,500ft from its ocean base - twice the height of Mount Everest [sic]".
