Interesting stuff being posted, as ever, but one thing I wish people wouldn't do is try to compare things such as violent crime rates in different countries. For instance, violent crime has a completely different definition in the US than the UK. The UK, for instance, counts many things as violent crime which the US does not. Another example is Canada, where they include all forms of assault as a violent crime whereas the US only includes aggravated assault in its violent crime rates. Comparing rates between countries is meaningless and utterly misleading. There, I've said all I will on the subject.
