Lower Puna: An island and it's future
#1
Let's look beyond the June 27th 2014 lava flow.

Lower Puna, as defined by that area South of the flow, will be different.

What is different good or bad?

What can we proactively do to make change for the better?

Assume:

1.The flow continues more or less non-stop.

2. Road access only by Chain of Craters road. COC.

3. High levels of SO2 and H2S have forced intermittent closures of COC. Some lasted several days. One lasted 2 months.

4. Talk about building a road over an active lava flow has proved to be nothing more than talk.

5. Talk of expanding the port keeps coming down to fighting between factions that want no seawall and factions that say it is necessary for a large ferry.

All around the world, some of the most desirable places to live, work, and see is a smaller island that is different than the nearby mainland.

Each of these islands changed for the better or worse because of the differences encouraged.

Singapore, Hong Kong, Boracay, Bali, Mackinaw, Fire, Province Town, San Francisco are all examples of islands that thrive.
