There are an estimated 17,500 homeless in Hawaii.
According to this article (below), 5 homeless people in NYC were sent to Hawaii via Project Reconnect after a certified letter to/from a family member in the islands verified that a relative lived here, and was willing to take them in. It doesn't state whether they continue to live with family, or are once again homeless:
