Bellows beach is probably the best area for beginners on Oahu. I've surfed a lot of beaches on Oahu. None here due to the lack of good beaches and well... I'm not out to compete with anyone's turf. Tho, being a girl ... She might get a pass on that! 
I dunno really. Try body surfing first. It's funner and faster to pick up IMO. Costco sells decent boards for adults for about 30-40 bucks. Don't forget to have fun! Hmmm, I brought mine over here from Oahu but never used it. I'd be willing to loan it out. as I don't use it on this island like I thought I might.
