Thanks, Jim. We also really loved northern California and it's a place I want to visit again, but right now just not the same appeal as the Oregon coastal towns. Gualala was wonderful though (anyone visiting the area - Seacliff on the Bluff has the most amazing ocean/sunset views from their rooms and it's pretty affordable - nice restaurants nearby as well). Have to admit that when we drove from Pacifica to Gualala on Hwy 1 the area around Muir Beach looked incredibly beautiful. Just wish Gualala and Yachats were in easy driving distance of each other, our next trip would be so much easier to plan!
As for Crescent City, well, didn't see too much of it. We arrived when it was dark and left not long after it was light again and unfortunately it was pretty wet. The hotel was OK, but the toilet broke (we seem to have a history of this in hotels!), and the hotel restaurant basically tried to poison Pam with chicken that was clearly a few days after its sell by date - I've never tasted something so disgusting. Not a place I plan to return to and the hotel is actually one of the top-rated ones there believe it or not.
