I find it somewhat difficult to sympathize with landowners fighting progress when that progress will be of substantial benefit to them.
If I had tens of acres, and the State wanted to run a highway through it, thereby creating valuable frontage ... I would trade the right-of-way for some official cross-street stubs.
A huge piece of Ag land is less "valuable" than a subdivision -- remember, the name of the game is "highest and best use", right?
