Leilani and Nanawale are Lava Zone 1 mostly because they are built right on the rift zone. At any time a new vent could open up along that rift zone. Lava zone 2 is adjacent to LZ1 and downhill from it. Both of these zones have had approx. 20% coverage by lava in the last 200 years (basically since they started being recorded). The Kahauale'a II flow is currently flowing through forest reserve land that is curiously in Lava Zone 3. Based on the topography, I'd suspect that Leilani and Nanawale are both safer than Pahoa, Beaches or HPP from this current flow.
