It always amuses me when people say "I don't have time". What makes people think those that serve on Boards are just as, if not more strapped for time? All I hear is a convenient excuse to crap on those that serve on boards. "If I only had the time, I know I could do a better job". I hear it ALL THE TIME.
I can't answer why those that don't make the time to go to meetings are not informed. Maybe it's because they don't make the time. I've always thought that getting informed is a personal responsibility. People don't have to go to mtgs. to read newsletters and minutes/ motions are posted on the OL website. This chipseal issue was written up in two newsletters before it went out for membership vote. The Board gets hammered constantly for spending too much on admin costs ($3000+ per mail out). Besides, this was not an issue until Wes quit. The 4 months he served as Pres. not once was it mentioned. Hmmmm.
Maybe this will help:
"I agree that paving MUST be completed but Wes's solution by confiscating a fund that has a very clear and specific purpose, is simply wrong. He was at the meeting when this vote went through in 2011. He held his tongue for 2 years. Only now it's a huge injustice? I'm pretty sure he paid this assessment for the 2 years, otherwise he couldn't serve on the BOD. Or maybe, he knew the membership would not pass a paving assessment in 2011, so he let this chip-seal vote pass only to raise hell when there was a significant amount of money to go after. Just a thought."
