Centipedes like to live in the coconut trees, I still have bad memories of centipedes running down my arms as I am trying to climb in the top of a 40 foot coconut tree. I was lucky my first instincts were to keep climbing, and not to just let go or flick the pedes off. After getting into the tree I did take the time to knock about 3 centipedes off my chest and shoulders. I remember sitting in that tree thankful that I had not been bit or that I did not panic and let go. After I had cleaned the tree of coconuts and climbed down, I could not stop iching everywhere. Came to find out I had these tiny little fire ants all over me, head to toe I was burning from these ants I could not see at first. Now I climb fewer trees, and pick and choose more carefully before I climb. I believe centipedes can sense fear, some folks may manifest themselves getting bit?. When I kill the big ones by the house I chop them up and spread them around my house to warn others of their fate. P.S. The 4-6 inch centipedes are the worst, Once they get 8 inches or larger they don't seem as interested in biting and don't leave as much pain behind their bites. I have been bitten at least a dozen times, cost of growing up here I guess?. I prefer the kona scorpions over the Centipedes. Anyone ever been tagged by those spiny nettle caterpillars? That stings and itches for days.
