Hey Skunky, Thank you. Your college edumacation and mother brought up some great solutions to my inconveniences on your last post. So way back when you were in college you yourself could get things done, now your all grown up so you don't care large business do not recycle as they should on an island. Your mother does sound like a hero, and because she did not post your insults I will give her a pass. The recycling program here in the state has come a long way, more can be recycled and these centers don't have to be so far apart. THE County and State helped Pahoa get a new police station, fire station, burger king, Kfc, quik loans, ect, YET the recycling center was built from the geothermal relocation fund. Now that the state is doing better with its $$800,000,000 million surplus, maybe they could pay back this relocation fund with a bump?. I do have a question regarding the charge and redemption of these products like beer and soda, does folks on E.B.T. see or get charged the same way as others?. Since they have imposed this tax or charge I myself have tried not to buy or purchase as much sodas or water. I use to drink beer, now I have been sober for 8 years, my point being I have tried to buy less of these bottles and cans since the 6 cent charge. Yet majority of folks I see at Malama buy these products like they are going out of style(soda and beer), most in Puna seem to have this credit card and no reasons to buy less of these products.
This area (Puna) has a very high E.B.T rate, as well poor health, poor education, with very few opportunities for our keiki's in schools. Recycling in Puna could be a bit different with some of the proceeds going towards our local schools to teach classes on how to recycle in our future?. Wood shop, FFA, computer, Welding, auto, and recycling classes would all be good classes that should be offered here in Puna. My first few days of not recycling have been pleasant with less hassles. My boys would like to recycle to help save money for the dentist so this boycott may not last long, $5,400 for braces is a lot of bottles and cans. P.S. How are the plastic and gas companies doing as a whole? Puna is awfully dependent on both, we need alternatives for the future?.
