Many responses occurred to me, but OpenD's comment characterizes the pointlessness of attempting a rational response:
"IMO, it is this stupendous disregard for the truth that characterizes the entire anti-GMO movement. It's really frustrating to try to have an intelligent conversation with people who just make stuff up whenever it suits them."
We can go on and on about whether we are bothered or not bothered by GMO's or whether we are OK paying higher prices for "organic" foods or not. I highly doubt that the science-oriented folks here really interested in whether you love organics or don't care or whether you think organic ketchup tastes better.
What I am sure they do care about is that the Hawai'i County's council passed anti-GMO legislation that not only has no rational basis whatsoever in observable, science-based reality, but also puts our agricultural sector, the citizens who actually try to make a decent living from farming, at a substantial disadvantage and could easily criminalize them. And potentially cost the county significant money to defend an irrational law. That is the fundamental problem here.
