Intersections in Hilo and lights that are not timed to the speed limit annoy many of us.
Lights can be timed in one direction, which cause them to appear out of synch when driving in the opposite direction. I'm not sure if they do this in Hilo, but in some cities the lights are timed to be green when you drive into town for work in the morning, then set so you hit green lights on the way out of town in the afternoon as people head home.
This keeps the majority of the traffic moving, but drivers headed out of town in the AM and into town in the PM will hit more red lights.
