There have been a number of sites with LFA discovered on both Oahu & Maui in the last few months.
Since that time, State Ag inspectors are spot checking outbound (Hilo) and inbound (Kahului & Honolulu) agricultural shipments at air cargo facilities on a regular basis.
Here are the new recommendations for interisland ag shipments:
We suggest adding insecticidal soap or other surfactants to the Mavrik dip to break the surface tension of the water and drown the ants. In recent tests, at least 10 min in the dip solution is needed to assure kill of the ants. Attached is a bulletin re: insecticide dip for tropical cut flowers and foliage recommending a combination of soap and a pyrethroid. Attached is the updated Mavrik and M-Pede insecticidal soap labels. Also, attached is a letter from Mr. Robert Boesch, former Pesticide Branch Manager, clarifying the use of insecticides as a dip.
