More Tropical Weather heading our way

It seems to have lost shape because of the mountains and then it almost reformed after it passed. I think although it lost it's typical hurricane form the channels, valleys and general shape of the mountains enhanced the effects of the wind because it causes an intense vertical swirling/churning motion. There is a more scientific term for this effect that I can't recall at the moment
