Pam - this time of year is always the hottest. I don't operate well at this time of year, but for the last few weeks have been working nights and sleeping during the day. Between 2 and 4pm the temperatures at my place (lower HPP) have been mid-90s with high humidity. No way I can sleep and function at night and like macuu222 am considering this an emergency and considering buying an A/C unit for at least one room. I hate the idea of the costs though.
Did this a few years ago commissioning an instrument remotely at Gemini. Worked nights and "slept" at home during the day. At the end of that 2-month period I was a complete wreck. The weedwhacking neighours were bad enough, but there was no way to sleep after 11am after temps got up to 90 degrees. The helicopters didn't help either.
Fortunately I work for a good employer who now allows and pays for me to stay in a semi-decent hotel room in Hilo with A/C during the day while working nights right now and it's stunning how much more efficient I am.
Not an option for many, I know, but just having a cool dark room to sleep is *so* nice...
