That was also before there was a bypass around Pahoa. ALL traffic going to the other side of Pahoa had to maneuver through the narrow little winding main street, especially past Cash N Carry which was always jammed. Lots of funky little shops since everyone had to drive directly in front of them, they didn't really have to do much advertising or be that nice, folks would stop in anyway. Pahoa was also at the end of a very long, narrow and very rough road, it wasn't all that quick and easy to get there.
