False Blister Beetles
#12
Lisa,
Your illuminated trap sounds like a good one. I was using an illuminated bug Zapper that worked very well until it bit the dust. I noticed a pair of Cain toads that came to eat the still crawling beetles on the ground below the Zapper. Even a few days after the Zapper died the cane toads were still hanging out and waiting for beetles to fall.
That observation inspired a thought to simply place an LED light bulb under an inverted white plastic dish tub. This would attract the beetles to the tub and the ground around the tub where cane toads can work together eating the little bugga's.
Our cane toads don't really annoy me so feeding them isn't a problem and I more consider them to be an automated night time insect vacuum.
I'm sure other illuminated trapping methods will emerge with time.
