The jobs sound great, labor intensive at 13,000 ft. I have a few memories of being up on mauna kea as a young boy. Their use to be a pretty lake or large pond, it would freeze over at times. We would take our Morey boogie-boards and reach some very dangerous speeds down some of the steeper declines. One time I had forgot shades for my eyes, in less than one hour I had gotten so burnt that I could not open my eyes for a week. I know stupid haole learned one good lesson. We use to skip school on good snow days to enjoy the summit a bit before noon, then drive down to 69's for the afternoon. Not to many places in the world where you can enjoy both extremes.
We never have gone up to star gaze, can imagine it must be amazing. Really long drive to and from with the kids that we tend to go out to kalapana instead to star gaze. Looking up at the mountain these days it looks like a Disneyland has been built up there, how many observatories are up top?. Are their any restaurants for star dining?. Does that old lake up their have any fish and how deep is it? I remember it as being a light blue turquoise color years ago. Bet plenty more traffic goes up today than 30 years ago.
