Mercury concentrations in Hawaiian yellowfin tuna
#33
Anyhow back to the fish... Given the strong recommendation to only eat ahi and several other species every other week, plus total prohibition against pregnant women eating any marlin, shark, or swordfish, the levels appear to be harmful enough IMO.

Dr Barbara Brooks is a toxicologist with Hawai'i Dept of Health who focuses on mercury issues. Here is a slide deck from her comparing mercury consumption in Hawai'i to Alaska (spoiler alert - it's 2x higher here, likely due to the differences in fish eaten) http://water.epa.gov/scitech/swguidance/.../day1l.pdf
