TomK you so funny. PhD? Knit picking perchance?
Yes Gypsy should by now know that plant inside and out.
I admit geothermal isn't my specialty. I redesigned control systems for nuclear power in the wake of TMI.
SIL4 systems on cat crackers too. Black liquor boilers were fun too.
Gypsy ignore him.
It is apparent to me from your questions that the public relations officer for the plant hasn't even come to say hello to you.
If any employee of PGV read this, please forward valid public questions to the plant manager
#1 No it is not possible for lava to come up from a very long narrow hole. Imagine trying to get wax to flow up a ten foot high straw. The wax will cool as it came up the straw and become solid.
#2 Any operation has some kind of environmental impact. Noise impacts the environment. However, noise levels even when drilling will be far less than on a typical busy city street.
#3 The PGV operation is closed loop. This means high pressure steam comes up one well, spins a turbine, and then is condensed into water. All those things that look like airconditioners with fans are cooling low pressure steam back into water. A high pressure pump, then forces the water back down a return well.
