First, there is a difference between people who are simply uncomfortable in their living situation, and people who are uncomfortable because others intentionally or unintentionally say things to make them uncomfortable.
Second, there is a saying "putting down roots." Just as you can't cut a tree at ground level, ship it somewhere else, then expect it to grow, people can't just "pull up roots." It's not that simple.
And most of the island residence have a place they came from and can move back to. For the Hawaiians this is it.
I would say for most island residents as well as Hawaiians, "this is it." If you don't think so, ask someone who has lived here for 20 or 30 or more years what it is they have to go back to. You might be surprised at the answer.
