After watching the construction of the CH and apparent failed B&B I applaud the efforts and condemn the establishment.
Excellent site, view, home should have drawn enough tourists to make a comfortable living for John and Sheri.
Instead, they ran into the establishment that constrained a valid business and yet cannot shut down every illegal transient accommodation host.
Every regulation, tax, and rule layed rained cannon balls at the castle from above.
Every home owner renting a room, guest house, or vacation rental helped destroy them by flooding the moat with empty rooms at cheaper prices. Vaction rental by owner is your best place to see this.
Sheri and John should still be together.
Come to think of it I should be at my home too. Instead for years I was driven from home to pay the bills. Ironically I helped finance the very same people that opened up their homes to tourists and took away business from my own licensed B&B.
However, legal businesses in Puna Hawaii are forced to cope with the environment where tourism can only be promoted in Kona.
Illegal tourist competition is permited to thrive. There are on VRBO 459 vacation rentals in Puna. From my understanding of transient accommodation law that a licensed B&B must follow, that makes 459 competitors with an illegal edge. On one website alone!
It is not Sheri and John that were disfunctional. It is addressing tourism and business in Puna in general that is disfunctional.
